ABOUT PICKLE HOUSE

About Pickle House

Pickleball life, every swing

Pickle House Club was started by a group of players who simply love pickleball.

It began with playing and geeking out over paddles. Then we started bringing in quality gear from abroad and hosting meetups. What we want to build is more than a pickleball shop: a community where anyone can join in and feel at home.

Whether you are picking up a paddle for the first time or pushing to reach the next level, there is a place for you here.

We believe the best part of pickleball is not who wins. It is the joy of every swing, the progress you make in every match, and the friends you meet through the game.

We want Pickle House to be more than the place you buy a paddle.
We want it to be the first place you think of when you want to play.

ROOKIE GUIDE

New to pickleball?

Get to know the court, remember four core rules, and you are ready to play.

Net KITCHEN KITCHEN Right service court Left service court Left service court Right service court 13.41 m (44 ft) 6.10 m 2.13 m | 2.13 m

Rule 1Serve underhand

Swing low to high and hit the ball below your waist. Serve diagonally into the opponent's service court, past the kitchen.

Rule 2Two-bounce rule

The returning team must let the serve bounce once, and the serving team must let the return bounce once. After that, volleys are allowed.

Rule 3No volleys in the kitchen

The 2.13 m zone on each side of the net is the kitchen (non-volley zone). Volleying while standing in it, or stepping into it from your momentum, is a fault. You can enter once the ball has bounced.

Rule 4Scoring

Games go to 11, win by 2. In traditional scoring only the serving team scores. In doubles, call the score as your score – their score – server number, for example 4-2-1.

Choosing your first paddle

Weight

Beginners do well with a mid-weight paddle of 7.5–8.2 oz (about 210–230 g): easy to control and less tiring.

Face material

Fiberglass has more pop and makes deep shots easier. Carbon fiber feels solid and gives more spin and control.

Grip size

When you hold the paddle, you should be able to fit one index finger between your fingertips and palm.

Try before you buy

Not sure what feels right? Try a few paddles at a meetup first.

RATING

What is DUPR?

DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is a global pickleball rating system. It rates you from the scores of your matches and the level of your opponents, regardless of age or gender. The more you play, the more accurate it gets.

At Pickle House, we use DUPR to set up evenly matched games, so every rally counts.

Getting started

  1. Download the DUPR app and sign up free with your email
  2. Join a recorded match or one of our rated sessions
  3. After the match, the organizer or your opponent enters the score and both sides confirm
  4. After a few matches, your rating settles in

FAQ

FAQ

I have never played. Can I join?

Yes. Just let everyone know you are new at a meetup and someone will play with you.

Do I need my own paddle and balls?

You can borrow a paddle your first time, and balls are provided. Once you know you love it, get your own paddle.

What should I wear?

Comfortable sportswear and court shoes with lateral support (badminton or tennis shoes work). Avoid running shoes, which make it easier to roll an ankle when moving sideways.

Do I need a DUPR rating to play?

No. DUPR just helps us group players. You can join meetups without a rating.

How is pickleball different from tennis or badminton?

The court is about the size of a badminton court. Paddles are solid and flat, and the ball is a plastic ball with holes. It is slower and easy to pick up, but net play takes real skill.
